Conservatives slammed California policies on Twitter on Monday following news of an attack against Olympic volleyball player Kim Glass.

The Olympian and model shared gruesome images of the injuries she suffered on Saturday in Los Angeles on her Instagram story, describing that while going out for lunch in downtown L.A., a homeless man threw a metal pipe at her on the street. While few if any posters named specific policies, they did blame current officeholders for the problem.

In the videos Glass posted, she shows a swollen black eye and a gash on her nose. "I do have multiple fractures," the Olympian said as she jokes, "Yes, I look like ET."

She said that while leaving for lunch, the homeless man approached her. "As I turned to tell my friend, 'I think something's wrong with him and I think he's going to hit the car' — before I knew it, a big metal bolt-like pipe hit me," Glass recalled. "It happened so fast. He literally flung it from the street. It kinda took me down and out."

She added that a group of strangers helped her and held down the man until police arrived at the scene.

In the wake of the attack, many conservatives have slammed California policy and the policymakers for the crime. On Monday, Fox News commentator Tomi Lahren tweeted, "This is what happens in the lawless streets of California!" She tagged the mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, as well as California Governor Gavin Newsom, saying that they "must be so proud of the s***hole they've created!"

One Twitter account known as Californians for DeSantis wrote, "Another horrendous video of a senseless attack in CA. Thankful Olympian Kim Glass is alive, but we, as California Citizens must expect more of our elected leaders. Too many innocent citizens are attacked by mentally ill and/or homeless and released within hours."

Anthony Cabassa reposted Glass' video, and tweeted that L.A. County's District Attorney, George Gascón, is soft on crime.

"Random acts of violence are rampant with the increasing homeless community, and soft-on-crime DA," Cabassa wrote.

Another user posted that Los Angeles' 2022 mayoral candidate, billionaire Rick Caruso, whose campaign advocates for homeless reform, should replace Garcetti, and called for Gascón's recall as well. "Glad Kim Glass is ok. Leadership changes to start," the user added.

The city's battle with increasing homelessness has continued to escalate. Homeless counts conducted by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) showed that in 2020, the city had over 66,000 homeless citizens. The count in 2021 was postponed due to a spike in COVID-19 cases, and authorities are currently gathering information for 2022.

City officials worked to clear out several homeless encampments in February ahead of the 2022 Super Bowl, which was hosted at SoFi Stadium.
